Lorna Findlay asked:

When most people hear the company name BMW, they usually associate it immediately with the high end automobiles that the company is well known for. Often they picture sleek sports cars and luxury sedans that epitomize an ideal blend between safety and high speed performance.

What most people don’t know, however, is that BMW had it’s beginnings in 1923 not with cars, but with motorcycle production. To this day, BMW constantly comes out with new models of motorcycles employing cutting edge technology. Their racing teams see constant action in the international racing circuits, and win quite a number of these races with regularity.

As a matter of fact, some BMW racing teams like to show off the specs of their machines by beating modified motorcycles from other groups, but they do so using only stock motorcycles that can be bought straight off the showroom floor by regular people. This impressive fact stands out and is something to bear in mind if you’re considering buying a motorcycle.

BMW has enjoyed such a high level of popularity that almost every country in the world has exclusive BMW motorcycle clubs for racers, owners, and enthusiasts. These clubs promote the popularity of BMW motorcycles by holding races, rallies, showroom events, and regular meetings among it’s members.

Aside from the high levels of speed and overall performance of it’s cars and motorcycles, however, BMW machines are also well known for one other thing. Sheer durability. BMWs are some of the toughest vehicles around, and their motorcycles also bear this same stamp of durability. Despite looking like racing bikes, which in the mind of most people means that a bike is delicate and can only function at top specs on a race track, BMW bikes have actually seen action in quite a number of off-road and all-weather competitions.

The only drawback perhaps to the BMW is it’s price tag, which tends to be higher than the average motorcycle. However, most BMW owners feel that the price is a worthwhile trade off for all the perks of the bike. As a matter of fact, it’s price and quality have made owning a BMW a status symbol.

The price actually works to the advantage of some of the more knowledgeable motorcycle enthusiasts, who have made a livelihood out of restoring BMWs or selling them to collectors. Because of the popularity and prestige of BMW, older model beemer bikes have become vintage units that can fetch a hefty price with the right people.

Anthony Fontanelle asked:

From the eighth to the tenth of this month, Stuttgart, Germany played host to the 2007 Engine Expo. The said event is the largest of its kind in the world and is the ninth time that the event was held. This year’s Engine Expo featured the most number of exhibitors in its history. The affair is held in a bigger venue than the previous exhibits. This is a necessary step to accommodate the number of exhibitors showing off the latest in engine technology.

The said occasion hosted the unveiling of different technologies in areas such as engine design, engine electronics, electric and hybrid powertrain technology, engine testing, fuels and lubricants, engine materials, emission controls, quality control and production technology. The event is highlighted with the International Engine of the Year Awards. The said awarding ceremony saw German car manufacturer BMW rack up a total of seven awards for their engines.

The most notable of those seven awards is the prestigious International Engine of the Year Award that was given to the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine used by the BMW 335i. The distinction was given to the BMW engine after deliberations between 62 notable motor journalists coming from 30 countries. The engine is equipped with twin turbochargers and uses the direct fuel injection system. This combination gives the engine an output of 301 horsepower. The power is complemented by exemplary fuel efficiency with this engine boasting 9.5 liters for every 100 kilometers traveled.

Aside from those awards, the 3.0-liter engine is also awarded the Best New Engine distinction bringing the number of its awards to three.

Another award that goes to BMW is for topping the over 4.0 liter engine class. Winning the said category is the 5.0-liter V10 used by BMW M5 and M6. The said engine also bagged the Best Performance Engine for BMW. This year marks the third time that the said engine was awarded that distinction. Two other engines topped their respective categories to give BMW two other awards.

For the 2.0 to 2.5 liter class, BMW’s 2.5 liter engine used on the 325, 525, X3, and the Z4 bagged the distinction of being the top of the class. Meanwhile, the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine used on the MINI Cooper S and Peugeot 207 bagged the award for the 1.4 to 1.8 liter class. That brings the total number of awards received by BMW to seven. This shows that not BMW is indeed a leader in giving the ultimate in driving satisfaction. These engines are known to complement other components such as BMW axles, transmission, and suspension assembly just to name a few.

BMW’s Director of Powertrains, Peter Langen, is obviously thrilled by their achievements. “This is a tremendous achievement and important recognition of the lengths our engineers have gone to in order to ensure the success of our turbocharged petrol engines,” says Langen. “We are proud to once again be honored as the manufacturer of the International Engine of the Year,” he added. This year marks the third consecutive year that BMW won the prestigious International Engine of the Year Award.

BMW’s dominance of this year’s awards left only five awards for other car manufacturers. Toyota bagged two awards with the Prius helping Toyota to once again rise to the top of the auto industry in terms of fuel efficiency. The Best Fuel Economy Award this year was awarded to the Toyota hybrid synergy drive used on the popular fuel miser Toyota Prius. Another award bagged by the surging Asian brand is for the Sub-One-liter class. The Toyota 1.0-liter used on the Toyota Yaris and Aygo, Peugeot 107 and the Citroen C1 won that class.

Similar to Toyota, Volkswagen also bagged two awards. The VW 1.4-liter TSI used on the Volkswagen Golf, Touran, and Jetta topped the one-liter to 1.4-liter class. The second award bagged by Volkswagen is for the 1.8-liter to 2.0-liter class. Winning the distinction for the said category is the VW 2.0-liter Turbo used on the Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and A6, and the SEAT Leon.

Meanwhile, German car manufacturer Porsche won a single award for the Porsche 3.6-liter Turbo used on the iconic Porsche 911.

“BMW is known for producing quality cars”

Opting for an automobile auctions car that has low depreciation may one the solution when entering the crash damaged car market. There is no doubt that BMW auctions have a better chance of holding its value once repaired than many other makes.

BMW cars are known for being expensive and till now of its latest model. With the help of the automobile auctions it can make a dream of having a cool auto come true for the price well below its original market value. BMW auctions are alternative resource to find out high performance BMW for an affordable price.

With millions of vehicles are sold at automobile auctions dealer every year.  BMW cars have always acquires a very tight community and loyal following. Last time, BMW cars had managed to outsell both Mercedes-Benz and Audi, which makes BMW cars the world’s best-selling premium cars. Audi was able to move cars 66400 compared with 96200 for Mercedes-Benz, while BMW 99755 vehicles sold. Both X5 and MINI models are responsible for the increase in sales of BMW. BMW sales are likely to increased with the release of the 1-Series and MINI Clubman. Used BMW auctions cars have always been among the highest of any resale value brand car (for both foreign and domestic). BMW auctions shifted from left to right be also one way for owning a BMW. It said that they are usually in the same class as a Mercedes-Benz or Lexus resale of a point of view and continue to offer one of the best values for the dollar invested in the market for used cars.

There is no need to over pay for the pride ride of highly attended automobile auctions when trying to find out some models from the BMW auctions. This sounding too good offer is possible because the US government is giving away its stock of seized and surplus autos to the general public for cheap.

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

BMW cars are great looking vehicles that speak of wealth, prestige and status. So how can you improve on these symbols of wealth with the use of BMW body kits? Well while you can use some of the more outlandish looking parts there are also other options. These are the use of rear wings or custom wheels and rims.

You don’t have to go all out and change the entire way your BMW looks. The main fact behind your decision to change the nice conventional look to your status symbol may be the desire to stand out from the rest of the crowd. The best way to achieve this ambition is with the use of BMW body kits.

You can start this metamorphosis by deciding on the first items to change. For instance you may like the look of the sky wing door of the Lamborghini range. These car doors open to the sky instead of the usual factory direct sideways. There are other items in BMW body kits that you can add to give your BMW a brand new look. These will include a possible trunkwing “959”.

At this point you should be aware that most of the body kits parts will have a language of their own. The trunkwing is a term denoting that a new trunk has been made out of fiberglass or the original OEM trunk. This new trunk comes complete with built-in wings of its own.

There are other parts in the BMW body kits range that you can add to your car. For instance you will find some fantastic rear and front lip parts which can be placed on your car. There are also the various side skirts which are attached to the sides of the car to give your BMW a sleek look. On the other hand you might want to have a wide body kit performed on your BMW.

This body kit will in some cases require extensive body work and painting to be done on your car. What is entailed in this type of body work is ground effect fender flares or wide fenders to be attached to your BMW. There are additional 1 /4 panels which need to be attached as well. To help your car cope with the wider fenders you may have to add some wider wheels and tires to your BMW.

Now before you become scared of how your car will look you should know that there are some real nice looking tires that will not spoil the elegant look of your BMW. As with so many different body kits the BMW body kits have been created to cater for the tastes of different people. You will find the addition of these BMW body kits to provide your car with added elegance.

BMW has recently announced their plans of reducing the CO2 emissions of their vehicles. To accomplish such BMW will make use of more efficient engines, regenerative brakes, and stop-start functions on most of its BMW model ranges.

The new Green Dynamics’ programme that that German automaker and manufacturer of BMW aftermarket parts will implement is designed to improve its cars ecological credentials while maintaining their dexterity.

A range of optimized four cylinder petrol and diesel engines will made part of the programme. The 2007 BMW lineup which is comprised of no fewer than 22 models will benefit from such programme by achieving less than 140g/km carbon dioxide emissions.

One of the most dramatic reductions will be seen on the 320d Touring with fuel consumption that is now down by 17 percent over last years model. BMW’s smaller car are not the only ones that are to benefit from the said programme, the uprated 520d will pump out an incredibly low 136g/km CO2.

Michelle Bery asked:

Car enthusiasts will often tell you of their undying loyalty to a particular car brand. And for many, that means a loyalty to what is considered to be a high-end luxury vehicle brand. The BMW, by far, reflects the continued support of the public for those cars that are considered to be luxury vehicles. And the BMW M5 is included in the superior product line that continues to be offered by BMW.

Originating in 1913 in Munich, Germany, The Bavarian Motor Works company (BMW), was operated by Karl Friedrich Rapp who desired to create superlative vehicles that would be unsurpassed in performance and quality. Rapp achieved his goals in creating the BMW - a brand that has held vast consumer appeal for over 95 years. As the industry changed and grew so did the design of the BMW, transforming itself to keep pace with the changing marketplace. The BMW M5 is simply another stage in the evolution of the BMW brand.

The BMW M5 is considered a high-performance luxury sedan and is, in fact, known to be the most powerful sedan in the world and the fastest accelerating BMW model to be built to date. It features a V-10 engine with five-liter capacity, 10 cylinders, 500 horsepower, and engine speeds of more than 8,000 rpm. The BMW M5 is one of the most high-quality vehicles on the road today; the car to which all other vehicles are compared.

The models of the BMW M5 include the E39, E34, and E28, as well as a number of unique models highly appointed with luxurious options. The BMW M5 carries with it a high price tag but how much you ultimately pay depends on the specific model that you purchase.

The BMW brand will undoubtedly continue to engage consumers for many generations to come as it expands its product line and consistently delivers high-end quality and unrivalled luxury through the BMW M5 and other models to come.

Rafay asked:

HID (High Intensity Discharge) is not a new term for luxurious sports car lovers. The headlights of these cars are called HID and they serve as an alternate for halogen headlights. HID headlights are of numerous advantages. The mind catching brightness, electrical consumption and advantages of HID conversion kits are enough to mesmerize its users. If you are upgrading your vehicles, then most experts will recommend for your vehicle, a BMW HID Conversion Kit.

A HID conversion’s most considered advantage is its brightness. Not only will it able you to see farther and better at night, it helps other drivers to see too. The brightness of the HID conversion kit is 300% more then a halogen set up. For those who are driving at night, it’s a great benefit.

It might make you think that it’s consumption due to brightness is more than halogen bulb but as a matter of fact its electric consumption is less. Ballasts are being given to you in every HID conversion kit. Actually, by converting the given standard 55W to halogen bulb, the ballasts reduce it up to 35W power. This lessens the strain on electrical systems.

BMW HID conversion kit is what allows you to stand number one on the victory stand among the thousands of other vehicles on the road in the world of style. BMW HID kits are available in the markets in different colors; it depends on you how bright you want it or which color you desire to illuminate.

Following are the types of BMW HID bulbs that you will find in the automotive markets these days;

H1 -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H3 -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H4 -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H4L -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H4H -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H7 -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H8 -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H9 -BMW HID XENON BULBS

H10 -BMW HID XENON BULBS

All of the above mentioned BMW HID bulbs have a standard power of 35W with the lamination flux of about 3600L. They have a life-span of more than 3600 hours. They vary in color and temperature like 4300K\6000K\8000K. The standard voltage out put of 85±5 V, with the current supplying car battery 3.5 A. Their color rendering index is 80R.

A BMW HID conversion kit not only updates the look of your vehicle, it increases visibility. The installation is very easy and simple and all wiring, harnesses, bulbs and mounting is included in each HID kit. It will charm you with a price tag of around $100; your car definitely will upgrade in performance and looks.

When you have installed your BMW HID bulbs follow the simple rules if you want your HID lamps to last longer:

a) don’t turn the bulb on and off until the car cools down.

b) Use only approved ballasts otherwise your HID bulb will go out soon.

c) The burn position or plane should be correct. Check the headlamp if they are direct on the pinch. To avoid overheating, it is good to have horizontal burn positioning.

d) avoid greasy and dirt hands while handling the systems, as these will affect the UV shield and the burner.

e) Be sure that your HID bulb fits into your headlight housing. If the housing is too small, it may cause the bulb to overheat. If it is too loose, vibrations may damage the bulbs.

f) As a precaution, we recommend you get an experienced mechanic to install the system. That has the right tools and the experience. You shouldn’t try installing your BMW HID kit without any skill and the know-how of it.
