Blake asked:

My friends have been trying to talk me out of a BMW. People say that BMW’s are bad because when they break down it is very expensive to fix.

So I was wondering, how reliable is a brand new BMW or more specifically how reliable is a brand new BMW 335i?

Is it as bad as everyone makes it?

Gargi Nath asked:

s time to finally sit down and consider getting another vehicle, there are a lot of things that you truly need to consider. If you are looking into getting a bmw but have never had much experience in driving or owning one, you may want to think about different bmw leasing options. The great thing about going with a bmw leasing option is that you are not stuck with the total purchase price of the car. Since the bmw is very expensive, this may be the only way you could afford to drive such a nice car. If you want to give the bmw a try without committing yourself, your money, and your credit to purchasing a bmw outright, then the bmw leasing option is probably the best way to go. Just make sure that you are looking for a bmw leasing special that fits your individual needs and budget. This is an excellent way to sort of test drive the car for a year or two to even decide if it is something that you would like to have for many more years to come. If you find through your bmw leasing option that you really enjoy the car, there are generally options for purchasing the car outright at the end of your lease terms. Problems With Leasing A Car While there are a lot of wonderful things to take into consideration when thinking about signing a bmw leasing agreement, there are things that you need to keep an eye on. Most all of the different bmw leasing agreements or deals that you come across are going to allow you a limited number of miles that you can put on the car in any given year. This means that if you drive a lot for work or pleasure then you may run into some problems. At the end of your bmw leasing agreement, if you ran up too many miles, you are going to have to pay out some cash out of your own pocket. Also, there is the problem with the inside of the car having any stains or damage to it. If you have small children or you like to eat, drink, or smoke in your car then you may run into problems with your bmw leasing agreement. When you turn the car in at the end of the one year or two year leasing agreement, the company will go over the inside and outside of the car with a fine tooth comb in order to see what damage, if any, you caused to the car. If there is even the slightest mark or stain they will explain that you have gone against your bmw leasing agreement and you will have to pay for the repairs. These are just some of the things that you need to consider before signing on the dotted line. http://bmw-cars-bikes.blogspot.com

Anthony Fontanelle asked:

The German car brand BMW is known the world over for its high performance vehicles and this fact has led to an increasing global market for the company. While the company is doing well in the European car market, its United States sales are questionable as of late. Increasing housing problems has led to the reduced sales for car companies in the United States last month.

In other parts of the world though, BMW is enjoying success in the auto market. In Malaysia, BMW expects that they will be posting an increase in sale for this year as compared to last year. The company is hopeful that their good start for the year will continue through the rest of the fiscal year.

BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd Managing Director Wolfgang Schlimme said that: “We have started well in 2007, with sales growing 37% quarter on quarter to hit 535 units in the first quarter.” The Malaysian auto market is increasing in its size as the country’s economy experiences a boost. Schlimme pointed out that that the company has been doing well in the Asian country for the past few years. “We have been growing for the last four years. Overall sales growth since 2003, when we sold 2,176 vehicles, was about 60,” says Schlimme.

The company posted their best ever sales in the country by selling 3,472 vehicles in the mentioned auto market. Of that number 3,302 vehicles are of the BMW brand while the remaining 170 units are MINIs units.

With last year setting a benchmark in terms of annual sales for the German-based car manufacturer and a good start to this year, Schlimme stated that the company is once again on the right track. He also pointed out the reasons for their continuing success in the country. “We are going in the right direction and setting our priorities in terms of model line-up, availability and pricing,” says Schlimme. “These are the reasons we are different from others. This has led us to continue growing in the past few years against the trend in the auto industry,” he added further.

Another reason for BMW’s success not only in Malaysia but around the world is their development of advanced features for their vehicles. BMW models are known to be loaded with technologically advanced features such as the night vision system and an advanced navigational system. In Malaysia, Schlimme credited their dealer network for the company’s success in promoting these technologically advanced BMW vehicles. “A key decisive factor for our success here is our dealer network. At the end of the day, it is not our team in Cyberjaya but our service advisers, sales representatives and management of BMW dealers that provide first impressions and create long-lasting customer relationships for us. The biggest sales success for BMW is contributed by our dealers,” says the general manager.

To date, BMW Malaysia has already a dealer network consisting of 13 dealerships. This number is set to increase as BMW is already on the latter stages of opening a new dealership located in Damansara in the country’s Klang Valley. Schlimme pointed out why their dealerships are amassing great success in the country. “Our dealer network is one of our priorities in the day-to-day business. Our dealers are consistently upgrading their existing facilities, capacities and competence for customer convenience,” he said. He also explained the company’s involvement in the development of their dealerships. “We are in the background, supporting and making the dealers’ sales and after sales capabilities as strong, competent and credible as possible. This is how it should be,” he further states.

Aside from empowering dealerships across Malaysia, BMW is also exerting effort on supporting their parts distribution centers in the country. “We are enlarging our training offerings at the centre, which services 14 markets,” says Schlimme. “Our group data centre provides information technology structure support to BMW organizations globally. It also serves the group’s worldwide network for specific competences, for example, in the global plant logistics system,” he added.

To increase their sales for the year, BMW Malaysia has added new BMW models to their lineup. New additions are the 325i Sports, 3 Series Coupe, Z4 M Coupe, X3 and the new MINI. In other BMW news, their plant producing the Z4 M Coupe will be canceling tours as vehicle production is set to go underway. The plant is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Robert Hitt, the Department Manager for Public Affairs, has this to say about the closing of the plant to tours: “This is standard operating procedure, and is the same action we took when we began working on the Z4 Roadster and the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle.”

The new, particularly economical entry-level version of BMW’s highly successful Sports Activity Vehicle - average fuel consumption to the EU standard 6.2 litres/100 kilometres (45.6 mpg imp), CO2 rating 165 g/km, emission standard EU5.

Munich. Fascinating agility on all kinds of terrain is now becoming more economical than ever before. Introducing a new entry-level version of the BMW X3, the world’s most successful manufacturer of premium all-wheel-drive vehicles is once again setting the standard for efficiency in a Sports Activity Vehicle.

The new BMW X3 xDrive18d is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel delivering an ample 105 kW/143 hp. Average fuel consumption of the new model in the EU test cycle is a mere 6.2 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 45.6 mpg imp. In CO2 emissions, this means a rating of just 165 grams per kilometre. This makes the BMW X3 the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive vehicle in its segment also in this performance class. And it almost goes without saying that the BMW X3 xDrive18d in series trim naturally fulfils the EU5 emission standard.

All-round driving pleasure and supreme efficiency have made the BMW X3 a genuine trendsetter, contributing significantly to the car’s worldwide success. Indeed, it was the BMW X3 which for the first time carried over the features and qualities typical of a Sports Activity Vehicle into a new segment, total sales of the X3 now amounting to more than 500,000 units. For a long time the BMW X3 was the only premium vehicle in its class, and to this day it remains the epitome of driving dynamics on the road as well as agility and supreme traction off the beaten track. And last but certainly not least, the BMW X3 offers an unparalleled balance of performance and fuel economy throughout the entire competition segment of BMW X models.

Superior all-wheel-drive technology, powerful traction and premium quality now with even greater all-round economy.

The attractive combination of all these features is now borne out in yet another excellent rendition in the guise of the new BMW X3 xDrive18d. The benefits of BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive technology, the spontaneous development of power typical of BMW’s diesel engines, and the uncompromising quality of a genuine premium model now come with an even higher standard of economy.

The BMW X3 xDrive18d is powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine featuring an all-aluminium crankcase and common rail direct fuel injection developing maximum output of 105 kW/143 hp at 4,000 rpm. Maximum torque of 350 Newton-metres (258 lb-ft) at just 1,750 rpm ensures truly outstanding traction and pulling power at all times. The new BMW X3 xDrive18d accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 10.3 seconds and has a top speed of 195 km/h or 121 mph.

In conjunction with BMW EfficientDynamics naturally featured as standard, the superior all-round efficiency of the diesel engine ensures the outstanding economy of the BMW X3 xDrive18d. Offering average fuel consumption of just 6.2 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 45.6 mpg imp) and a CO2 rating of 165 grams per kilometre, the new model is even more economical and cleaner than the former leader on the efficiency scale, the 130 kW/177 hp BMW X3 xDrive20d (6.5 litres/43.5 mpg imp/172 grams). And just like its “bigger brother”, the new BMW X3 xDrive18d naturally fulfils the EU5 emission standard.

The highly successful BMW X3: efficient, lasting in value, reliable.

The introduction of the new BMW X3 xDrive18d increases the number of engine variants available in this SAV from BMW to no less than seven. The customer has the choice of three petrol-engine models with power output ranging from 110 kW/150 hp to 200 kW/272 hp and four diesel models culminating in the 210 kW/286 hp BMW X3 xDrive35d as the most dynamic performer in the range.

Like all engine variants the new BMW X3 xDrive18d also comes as standard with BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system. This permanent, electronically masterminded all-wheel drive ensures variable distribution of drive power front-to-rear, promoting both driving dynamics on the road and safe, secure traction off the beaten track, with drive power constantly going to the wheels where it can be converted most effectively into actual driving forces on the road.

Thanks to the outstanding and truly convincing qualities of xDrive also available in many other BMWs, BMW remained the world’s most successful manufacturer of all-wheel-drive vehicles in the premium segment also in 2008.

Over and above such outstanding efficiency and fascinating agility, the BMW X3 also offers truly excellent reliability. In 2009, for example, the X3 was lauded for the second time in a row with the renowned Yellow Angel Award by Germany’s and, indeed, the world’s largest motoring club, the Allgemeine Deutsche Automobilclub (ADAC), for outstanding all-round quality. Proceeding from the findings of ADAC’s breakdown helpers famous throughout Germany as “Yellow Angels”, this leading motoring club once again acknowledged the BMW X3 as the most reliable vehicle on the road in Germany.

Last but certainly not least, BMW’s SAV also comes right at the top in terms of lasting value. In the category of off-road vehicles the market observers at EurotaxSchwacke ranked the BMW X3 No 1 in their AutomobilForecastIndex 2008, confirming that of all vehicles in this segment BMW’s SAV shows the lowest decline in value.
