I replaced my battery without knowing that it’ll reset the radio. I don’t have the manual or anything that came along with the car, but I do have the registration papers for the car. I tried bringing it to a BMW dealership but they’re charging me $150 for the code. Thanks in advance for helping out.

Max Rossi asked:

If you own a BMW chances are you have scoured the internet searching for great deals on BMW parts and accessories. Who can blame you? BMW’s are infamous for their great handling, but with great handling comes the associated wear and tear of the suspension and steering parts (ie BMW control arms and thrust arms). When these parts begin to wear, its not surprising when you get an outrageous quote from a dealership for hundreds, if not several thousands of dollars to replace these steering and suspension parts. I’m just using BMW control arms as an example, but its across the board for any European cars such as Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, and Volkswagen.

You have now made a decision to do your own due diligence and attempt to source the parts outside of a dealership to save you a little bit of money. You will quickly become overwhelmed by the amount of company’s brands and products to choose from and may be confused by the jargon used in the aftermarket and OEM parts industry. Terms such as genuine, aftermarket, OEM, OES, and OEA. I will end all of this confusion right here and right now.

Genuine BMW Parts: Genuine BMW parts come in Genuine BMW packaging. Plain and simple. If its not in a Genuine BMW box, or has a BMW stamp on it, it is not considered a Genuine BMW Part. Keep in mind BMW does not actually manufacture these parts, they are subcontracted to companies that manufacture the specific product. The company that manufactures the particular part for BMW is called the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

OEM BMW Parts: OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. It is essentially the same product as a Genuine BMW Part, however the manufacturer has sold the product in their own packaging instead of sending it directly to BMW to be packaged under the BMW name.

OEA/ OES BMW Parts: Stands for either Original Equipment Aftermarket or Original equipment supplier. A company may manufacture genuine parts for Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, or other car maker, but if they have never manufactured a part for BMW, they will never be considered a genuine BMW part or OEM BMW part.

Aftermarket BMW Part: An aftermarket BMW part is manufactured by a company that has never been contracted by a major car maker to be their Original Equipment manufacturer. Although the company has never been contracted by a major auto maker, the parts are made to fit and perform as well as the OEM since they are generally produced with the same materials and machinery.

Our purpose here is not to be deceitful. As you move down the chain, the instances of coming across a BMW part that is inferior in quality will increase. Now that you are an educated consumer you can use this information along with checking the warranty policy and credentials of the company to make the best decision along the way.

Wayne Hemrick asked:

If you are one of the many BMW owners who use their cell phones while driving you can benefit tremendously from installing a BMW Bluetooth module in your car. There are many benefits to be gained from a BMW Bluetooth module including added value, functionality, and above all, safety to your vehicle.

Has This Happened to You?

In 2005, a woman in Portland, Oregon was chatting on her cell phone while driving across one of that city’s many bridges. She was so distracted that she lost control of the vehicle, broke through the guardrail and plummeted 60 feet into the Willamette River, where she and her vehicle sank under 55 feet of water. Amazingly, she survived with only minor cuts and bruises.

A man in Indianapolis, Indiana was not so lucky. While talking on his cell phone, he missed a stop sign. He was broadsided by a dump truck and killed instantly. Ironically, he had been talking to a funeral director, making arrangements for his brother who had died similarly the day before, running a red light as he was using a cell phone while trying to drive.

All too common in todays world, these incidents clearly illustrate the best reason to install a

BMW Bluetooth module in your vehicle.

Safety – and Convenience

A BMW Bluetooth module uses technology that is an outgrowth of radio. Using low-band, unlicensed frequencies, Bluetooth protocols allow an astonishing array of digital devices from personal computers to cell phones and even game consoles to communicate with one another securely over short distances (under 100 meters). This makes it ideal for integrating your cell phone with your BMW vehicle’s sound system.

Installing a BMW Bluetooth module allows you to access your cell phone using the buttons on your steering wheel. Data (such as phone numbers) can be displayed on the instrument panel, and you can receive incoming calls over your OEM radio. Voice command allows you to “dial” the number you want to call by simply speaking the numbers – or, if you’ve programmed it, the name of the party you’re trying to reach.

Once your BMW Bluetooth module is installed and you have a compatible headset, you’ll enjoy the convenience and safety of “hands-off” operation. You won’t have to take your eyes off the road nor remove your hands from the steering wheel.

Even More Features

What’s even better about Bavarian Soundwerk’s BMW Bluetooth module is that your cell phone will automatically interrupt any programming that may be playing on the radio – you won’t need to worry about missed calls.

The BMW Bluetooth module is easy to install and inexpensive to own. It will add tremendous value and functionality to your vehicle while allowing you to use your cell phone in the car in greater safety. See for yourself by getting your BMW Bluetooth module today.

In September, BMW’s best selling 5 Series will be equipped with a new engine that exhibits increased power output while economy and emissions figures both improve at the same time. The new four-cylinder single-turbocharged powerplant is capable

Such an improvement has led to refined performance figures with the zero to 62mph reached in 8.3 seconds in the Saloon as compared to the previous 8.6 seconds.

With quality BMW window regulator, the 5 Series has a top speed of 144mph.

Since then, a BMW 520d has always made sound financial sense. Further monetary incentive is on offer with the new 1,995cc engine in place.

And because modern engines are built to reduce gas consumption, the model achieves greater fuel economy with a combined 55.4mpg figure.

With a CO2 emissions figure of 136g/km the vehicle sees to drop into Band C for Vehicle Excise Duty saving an owner further expenditure. And with the new engine in the Touring model, similar impressive figures are achieved. The 520d Touring achieves a zero to 62mph time of 8.5 seconds. This is a combined consumption figure of 53.3mpg and 140g/km emissions.

The powerplant in the 520d reaches its class-leading performance figures courtesy of Efficient-Dynamics technology plus Brake Energy Regeneration, active aerodynamics, optimum gear shift indicator and low rolling resistance tires. You can buy a BMW 520d Saloon from £27,190 OTR while at £29,200 OTR you can afford to have the 520d Touring.

Evander Klum asked:

Last August 19, 2007 BMW launched its ad campaign for the M3. It’s a 50-second TV commercial showing BMW’s M3 in flight. This TV ad is the only one of its kind created for the new BMW M3 worldwide.

The commercial is entitled “Test Pilot” and shows a man who seems to be training as a fighter pilot. This TV ad was created by Ireland/Davenport and was shot in Orlando, south of Johannesburg.

The hero in the commercial has undergone strenuous examinations with the final test to be conducted on a new BMW M3 with quality BMW door handle. The commercial ends with a pay-off line that states: “The new BMW M3. The Spirit of M. Unleashed by technology”

According to Philip Ireland, the bright mind behind the advertisement, “The BMW M3 is the ultimate performance vehicle but, more than just highlighting the pure brawn, we needed to emphasize the intelligent design and technology that enables the vehicle to do what it does. We wanted to show the IQ that went into the development of the new BMW M3.”

John Davenport also said, “The BMW M3 has a performance heritage which is made possible by the extreme technological superiority and advanced innovation of the vehicle. With this in mind we thought the best way to convey the matchless driving experience of a BMW M3 would be through the intense physical and mental experiences that the driver would undergo to be able to cope with this type of driving experience.”

The TV ad is just a part of the integrated campaign that includes print, outdoor, radio, online and other direct marketing campaigns developed for the promotion of BMW’s new M3. Ireland/Davenport has also worked with BMW’s digital agency, Aqua Online which makes sure that the whole concept and idea is taken to every aspect of the campaign. It was Kevin Fitgerald of Egg Films that directed the commercial.

In making the commercial the crew has met some problems along the way fortunately for them they were not severe so the shooting has gone ahead as schedule. Ireland was quoted by Marketingweb as saying: “During filming of the high speed shots we found that the tracking vehicle at its absolute top-speed was unable to keep up with the BMW M3 in order to film the shots. So, in the end, a second BMW M3 had to be brought in to become the tracking vehicle!”

Both of the BMW’s above-the-line and below-the-line businesses are to be handled by Ireland/Davenport. And to further attract customers there would also be a “Star City Cosmonaut” online competition wherein one entrant will be given the rare opportunity to visit Star City, Russia which is a highly controlled military facility located north of Moscow where cosmonauts are trained at the Gagarin Cosmonauts Training Center since 1960s. In addition the winner will also get the chance to ride in a MIG fighter jet.

Chet Waters asked:

Why The BMW H3 Hybrid Will Knock Your Socks Off

I don’t know about you but I‘m not easily impressed. Having said that let me tell you about the BMW H3 Hybrid and why it definitely will impress you too.

As you know, most hyrids use batteries as their source of electrical energy. The problem with this system is that the batteries are heavy, expensive and don’t last as long as the cars they are installed in. Because of these problems with batteries, BMW has taken a different and more creative approach to power generation.

Instead of batteries, BMW uses capacitors which they call “Super Caps”. These “Super Caps” are installed in the body of the BMW H3 Hybrid itself. Now, for those of you that don’t want the technical specs, let me make this easy and simple for you to understand. Total capacity of these “Super Caps” is about 190 kilowatts of energy.

Even though this is less energy then you can store in batteries, it still gets the job done for the BMW H3 Hybrid.

The major benefits of BMW using “Super Caps” are two-fold. The first benefit is that they charge very quickly compared to a battery. And secondly, when you need the extra power the most the “Super Caps” discharge quickly. In s sense you can think of them as being like a high performance battery. The downside is that their storage capacity is less than a battery.

But the benefits of the “Super Caps” outweigh the larger storage capacity offered by batteries.

The location of the “Super Caps” in the side-sill of the BMW H3 Hybrid is, in my opinion, a stroke of genius. Not only does this location look great, but it also has two other very important benefits. This location saves space and also provides for better handling because of the low center of gravity.

From an auto engineer’s point of view, this is a dream come true.

The fact is, hybrid sales have taken off and market analysts predict a big increase in market share for hybrids over the next decade. This make BMW perfectly positioned to take advantage of the hybrid opportunity because buyers are asking for more fuel efficient cars.

But, BMW does even more to create a great hybrid.

Consider this—–

With the creation of the BMW “Active Transmission”, the H3 has all the force of a diesel but the reaction time of a conventional gas engine. Without getting into the technical aspects, let me tell you this about the BMW “Active Transmission”.

What makes it so incredible is that it is the same size as the standard BMW automatic transmission but includes two clutches, the electric motor, six driving gears and all the electronics to run the electric part of the system.

What does all this mean to you?

A thrilling ride——that’s what.

Not only do you get about a 20% fuel reduction, but you will also experience 0 to 60 in about 6.7 seconds. Are you ready to feel the excitement of 146 MPH at top speed. Provided of course you can find a road without a “Smokey” where you can run “wide open”. To me this means that you get the best of both worlds. Save money on fuel and get high performance at the same time.

What more could you possibly want in a hybrid?
